Governor Andrew Cuomo, top candidate for Mayor of New York City, announced last week, "the formal launch of South Asians for Cuomo – a powerful and diverse multi-denominational grassroots coalition of Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs – during a packed rally attended by hundreds of New Yorkers in the former governor’s home borough of Queens.

The new grassroots coalition will mobilize voters in their communities across New York in the final weeks of the campaign, working to engage and turn out South Asian New Yorkers who share Cuomo’s vision for a safer, fairer, and more affordable city.

Community leaders cited Cuomo’s record of results, his steady leadership, and his proven ability to deliver for diverse communities across the five boroughs as key reasons for their support. They also pointed to his history of fighting hate crimes, expanding small business opportunities, and investing in immigrant communities as evidence that he understands the needs and challenges facing South Asian New Yorkers. They contrast that with Zohran Mamdani’s record of calling for defunding and villainizing the NYPD, decriminalizing prostitution, and closing Rikers with no viable plan for the 7,000 people it houses.

'New York’s greatest strength is its diversity, and the South Asian community is an essential part of that fabric,' Cuomo said. 'We all want the same things — a city that working people can afford, good schools for our kids, safe streets, and the ability to live with dignity and respect. I know how to make government work to achieve those goals, and I’m deeply grateful for the support and trust of this community. Together, we’ll make sure New York City’s best days are still ahead.'"
