Hundreds pack funeral for Roger Fortson, the Black airman killed in his home by a Florida deputy

The Look of Love Niya ParksComment

"People lined up well before the start of the service at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest to file past the open coffin and say their goodbyes to Fortson, who was shot six times by a deputy responding to a May 3 call... He was 23. The Rev. Jamal Bryant opened his eulogy with a story about how civil rights icon Medgar Evers joined the Army during World War II even though he and other Black American service members were fighting for freedoms abroad that they didn't enjoy at home."

"TULSA RACE MASSACRE SURVIVOR CELEBRATES 110TH BIRTHDAY"

"Over four years ago, Fletcher’s and Randle’s families launched a case in 2020 seeking justice for the attack that took place when they were both children. Their lead attorney, Damario Solomon-Simmons, said Fletcher looks “vibrant” but said time is of the essence for her to 'see justice in her lifetime.' The third plaintiff in the case, Hughes Van Ellis, died in October at 102 years old. Ellis was Fletcher’s younger brother. The case, filed against the city of Tulsa and the regional chamber among others, has two claims: to seek money and property lost as a result of the massacre and an unjust enrichment claim in which the suit alleges that the defendants made money off the survivors’ name, image and likeness."

Torn Apart: How the Child Welfare System Destroys Black Families

The Look of Love Niya ParksComment

“Once again Dorothy Roberts offers us a bold, visionary critique of the contemporary institutional consequences of colonialism and slavery. Her penetrating analysis of the family policing system and its masquerade as child protective services not only persuades us that reforms alone will forever reinforce the system’s racist and repressive foundations, it also compels us to imagine new modes of care and frameworks for abolitionist futures.”

"These American statements will lead to enhanced violence & fighting, since they embolden Israel’s enemies."

Mr. President & VP Harris, it's imperative that the U.S. stands on Israel's side. If we do not stand with Israel, we will not stand.

"Angel Reese, the LSU basketball star who recently became a member of the WNBA's Chicago Sky, made her Met Gala debut on May 6 — and her look is a slam-dunk.

Reese, who also celebrated her 22nd birthday at the event, wore a 16Arlington by Marco Capaldo gown. The sparkly, mint-green dress featured a halter top with a deep V-neck and a sheer, floor-length skirt with feather details around the waist. Her long hair was swept back into a sleek ponytail." - People
